Clothing franchise Studio 88 has distanced itself “completely” and terminated its relationship with MacG following the “harmful and offensive” commentary made by the hosts during one of their recent episodes!

The Studio 88 Group issued a statement saying that: “The Studio 88 Group stands firmly against the harmful and offensive commentary and statements made by MacG during one of his recent Podcast and Chill with MacG episodes as same goes against our core values and beliefs as a company group in SA.”
Earlier this month, MacG got in hot water following statements about the LGBTQI+ community after he apparently took jabs at trans-women.

“You are going to have a sex change just to be with women? Now she’s lesbian. Why can’t you just be a man and be with a woman?” asked Sol Phenduka.
In responding to Sol Phenduka, a laughing MacG said: “I can’t keep up. I can’t keep up. What do you call that?”
“In light of the above, the Studio 88 Group wishes to distance ourselves completely from the aforementioned statements, podcast, and its host/s,” reads the statement.

The Studio 88 Group said that they have taken a decision to terminate, with immediate effect, any business/sponsorship relationship they may have with MacG.
The brand which has been labeled as selling counterfeit brands has now distanced itself from one of the massive Podcasts in South Africa.
An episode of the show on February 22, 2021, opened with an advert announcing that the episode was “proudly sponsored” Studio 88.

Clearly, Studio 88 was not “aware” of the statements made by Sol Phenduka and MacG or simply they used him for publicity.
Studio 88 is following in the footsteps of Old Mutual who also terminated their relationship with MacG.
“Old Mutual has seen the discussion that took place on MacG’s Podcast. As a responsible business that fully respects the rights of everyone, we have decided to terminate the relationship with MacG, with immediate effect,” reads a statement released by Old Mutual.

Podcast and Chill with MacG have had the most content driving interviews with stars such as Pearl Thusi, Zakes Bantwini, Shimza, Prince Kaybee, and Makhadzi to name a few.
