It is an unspeakable time for South Africans, considering the ongoing looting and riots that have taken place since former president Jacob Zuma (79) handed himself over to the police on Wednesday, 7th of July 2021.
The former president handed himself over to Escourt Correctional Facility after defying the constitutional court order, which apparently compelled him to appear at the Zondo Commission into allegations of State Capture. To this extent, a number of civilians have not been content since the former president was apprehended.

South Africans anticipated the result of having the former president Jacob Zuma arrested, but the nation did not foresee it to hit such extreme measures. A matter that began in KwaZulu-Natal by civilians believed to be supporters of the former president, that are downright against Zuma’s arrest has spread from province to province.
Civilians have succumbed to riots and the looting of a number of businesses, together with burning trucks used to transport goods and brand new vehicles. There will be dire consequences.” – actress Thuso Mbedu tweeted.
Thuso Mbedu is amongst other South African socialites that commented on the ongoing riots. Media personality Somizi Mhlongo took to his Instagram to state that as a country, “we are a disgrace”, and a number of his followers are sympathizing with him in his comment section and reposting the video of him speaking on this. “Encouraging violence and damaging of people’s belongings and property is uncalled for, I don’t care who says what.” – DJ and actress Thuli Phongolo tweeted.

The unrest and riots continue and are ensuing the lives of civilians. The looting will result in the downfall of the economy, and the increase of unemployment rates due to job losses.
