On Wednesday Gugu Khathi was invited to speak at Absolute High Tea, at the Village for Women Entrepreneurs in their workspace addressing challenges faced by women in business. This is where she affirmed that she was a true, slay queen.
“Today I was invited to speak to you guys and to motivate you about the challenges you’re facing in business. I know more about that and the journey I’ve traveled for 15-years now, and I am an entrepreneur by choice. I’ve never really worked my whole life,” says DJ Tira’s wife.
She says she always had the hunger to do her own “damn” thing. She has tried many things and if something doesn’t work she moves on to another.
DJ Tira’s first lady claims that she has never submitted her cv or thought of things to put in her cv.
“I was always told that I’ll shake the world. I was a ‘majaivane’ dancing for free until I realise people are actually paying for this. I’ve always been a dancer and I’ve paid my dues,” Gugu says.
She says everybody possesses something called talent and that talent is your beginning and your ending.
“The journey you’re in now and that you’re going to travel will take you back to that talent,” she says before jumping to define slay queen.
The self-acclaimed slay queen told her audience that with all the negativity that is going on currently there are things that wake us up in the morning. She affirmed that people are either respecting or misusing the term slay queens.
“The term slay queen is a term that we all thrive and we want to be identified with one day. It’s a term I associate myself with definitely, basically it is a term to motivate women all over the world”.
Gugu says the lady that said slay was Maya, and there was no way she could have released such a strong word and then she can stand here and see what we think of those words.
According to her explanation slay queen means to wake up, get dressed, look good, go out there and slay.
“So I am shocked why women are shy to be slay queens. I am a slay queen guys,” shares Gugu in a joyful manner.
She has asked the gathering why do “we” allow such strong words to be abused and that she was very happy when she found out what the words mean.
That’s all that we got from her mini video clip before she could dwell more on the challenges, well, if she did.
Informally the word slay means greatly impress or amuse.
According to an article, MGOSI.co.za read, in layman’s language, a slay queen is a woman who wants to choke everyone else with how beautiful they feel they are and how they do their cool stuff, not forgetting their blond opinions.
It is that girl who doesn’t eat fries, does sleepovers only at leafy addresses like Patrice Motsepe’s and them.
Remember that girl who told you that a gentleman must match his shoes and belt, yet her face and neck don’t match? That’s a slay queen.
MGOSI.co.za says, we simply agree with Gugu because the term slay queen has been misused so badly, that when we hear it we think of girls that are gold-diggers and club-hopping. Slay queen is a girl/woman who works hard to get what she wants. Our examples will be Gugu herself and Bonang Matheba to name a few.
