Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi says sorry for comments she made during last night’s episode after contestant Luyolo Yiba went through to the final two.
After Luyolo Yiba’s performance, Unathi Nkayi said, “On behalf of the Xhosa people we are tired of holding up the nation. From Tat’ uKani to the son on Black Panther, to Miss South Africa, to Siya Kolisi winning the world cup, to Unathi published author and now we finally have someone from the Eastern Cape in the finale.”

However, after she was lambasted on social media, Unathi Nkayi has now issued an apology to those she has hurt with her now described as “tribalist” and “divisive” comments.
“It saddens me that I have broken so many hearts with what I said tonight (Sunday). What I saw was a beautiful joke being passed around this past week by so many South Africans not necessarily Xhosa and I wanted to share,” says Unathi Nkayi.

Unathi Nkayi admits that she was wrong and should not have shared the joke or said what she said.
“I was wrong and I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry if I have hurt your feelings,” says Unathi Nkayi.
A fan on her Instagram suggested that she should apologise to Luyolo Yiba.

“I think you need to apologise to Luyolo as well because as much as it was not intentional it will hurt Luyolo’s chances in the competition,” wrote the user, of which Unathi Nkayi attended by saying, “you’re assuming I haven’t.”
Another fan lambasted Unathi Nkayi saying if she did it publicly most of “us” would change how we feel about you and what we think about your “joke” but your arrogance resembles that you’re not genuine.

Another user hit hard by saying that Unathi is not genuine after the damage she has done. She is busy attending to their comments when they are the ones explaining her comment to Luyolo’s potential voters.
Another fan had a problem with the user of “if” in her apology and she had this to say, “Some say I didn’t offend them. I’m apologizing to those who were offended. YOU lost ME when you didn’t get THAT.”
“Must be hard being a celebrity sis Unathi… There was absolutely nothing wrong with what you said. These types of comments were all over social media and not once did people feel offended but now that you said it all of a sudden people feel offended ow wow,” wrote another user.

“Because others say they are not hurt. So if you are one of the ones I did hurt I’m sorry. Stop trying to start something that’s not there. My apology is sincere. If you feel I don’t need to apologise I respect that too,” says Unathi Nkayi.
