At the beginning of the year, Kwaito legend Zola 7 went viral after a video of him looking sickly had been posted on social media.
In an interview with True Love Zola 7 said he had been suffering from epilepsy for a few years. Hence his frail appearance, and he also mentioned that he knows that there are a lot of assumptions regarding that.
“I know that there’s been a lot of speculation about my illness,” he said.
It was after then that South Africans pledged to help the musician and television host and within months, he was ready to get back to work.
Following the Night with Legends concert on Saturday, October 1. Radio personality, Tbo Touch commended Zola 7’s comeback in a heartwarming Instagram post.
The year 2022 marked the first edition of A Night with Legends at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand, Gauteng.
The evening was hosted by Metro FM’s Tbo Touch and saw performances from the likes of Arthur Mafokate, Mdu Masilela, DJ Oskido, Thebe and TKZee’s Kabelo Mabalane.
Zola 7 was one the artist’s that made a surprise appearance at the show. Oh man! It was beautiful to see.
As per The Afropolitan, organisers felt an event that honours South Africa’s Kwaito legends was long overdue.
“We want to bring back the ‘kwai-ness’ of this genre and have masses dancing to the beat. The uniqueness of kwaito music is that it has given birth to other genres today – it is the mother of dance music here in South Africa and its sound is uniquely Mzansi,” they said.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, October 3. Tbo Touch contemplated on Zola 7’s appearance at A Night with Legends and praised his comeback to the stage.
The radio DJ called Zola a “living testimony”.
“We serve a God of 2nd, 3rd 4th chances, we can never reflect on the evolution of urban culture and not mention Zola’s name. Every Friday from 16:00 to 17:00 on The Touchdown Metro FM we do the legends hour,” wrote Tbo Touch.
“This event is a culmination of consistent quality radio driven by life-changing features. Many thought he would never walk, sing and perform ever again but sometimes life has a way of reminding us that God is on the throne!!!”
