BBC 1Xtra’s Money Moves Podcast host Toni Tone has found a new home in the hearts of South Africans. On Tuesday and Wednesday, she’s been topping Mzansi Twitter trends after she had a “random” but “cute” Twitter experience with her citizens!

Tone Tone is a writer, speaker, content creator, and the host of BBC 1Xtra’s ‘Money Moves’ podcast. She is best known for her inspiring and thought-provoking writing on Twitter, which has been featured in publications such as The Independent, Cosmopolitan, Mail Online, Elle, Huffington Post, and more.
“I’ve had the most random but cute Twitter experience today. So, my South African followers sometimes say the word ‘bathong’ and I’m like what does it mean? I see it all the time so I thought I’d ask and I guess they were shocked I even know what the word was, but they all got together to teach me what the word meant,” says Toni Tone.

The gorgeous Toni Tone also shares that she received more than 5000 Twitter followers from Southy.
“Basically, it means like ‘Oh my God, like wow’ It’s a show of surprise… So I used it in a sentence and they were like ‘yeah, you’re using it the right way’ and then they asked me to a video pronouncing it… they corrected me and I redid it,” says Toni Tone.
When Toni Tone completed the task at hand, South Africans saw it fit to name her NALEDI, which means a star. Including, playing her Dinaledi (stars) by Major League DJz, Abidoza featuring Mpho Sebina, which premiered on YouTube on December 10, 2020.

“I shared the Dinaledi song on my Instagram story after one of you guys tagged me. Now my UK pals are downloading it,” shares Toni Tone.

Embracing her new name, she changed her Twitter name to Toni Naledi Tone, which impressed many South Africans, including others exchanging tweets with her until the early hours of Wednesday morning.
