On the 23rd of October 2006, iconic singer Lebo Mathosa died at the age of 29. When she died in a car crash South Africans were left in disbelief. On Wednesday locals are remembering the late Lebo Mathosa.
Taking to Twitter, minster of transport Fikile Mbalula says, “On this day 13 years ago we wake up to the news that Lebo Mathosa was no more she died in a car crash, our hearts sank in disbelief. RIP Lebo Mathosa, I will always cherish the good memories we shared together with Boom Shaka. Long Live”.
“Today marks 13 years since the passing of South African multi-award winning Singer Lebo Mathosa. The production of her biopic ‘Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story’ is currently under production, aiming to portray her musical journey from the 1990s during the Kwaito evolution,” says minister of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa.
Radio personality Penny Lebyane says it hurt(s) so much that morning and that it was like a dream.
“Lebo Mathosa we remember you,” says Penny Lebyane.
Musician and former Idols SA contestant Bianca Le Grange took to her Instagram page to say, “It’s been 13 years since the passing of the iconic Lebo Mathosa (16 July 1977 – 23 October 2006) I miss you chomza (friend)”.
According to various reports, her driver apparently lost control of the Toyota Prado in which they were traveling on the N3 highway on the East Rand. The vehicle overturned between the Heidelberg Road offramp and Gret Avenue in Germiston.
The Boom Shaka singer, whose music also incorporated elements of African music, dance, and funk, died at the scene of the accident. The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated for shock.
Former Rhythm City actress and musician KB Motsilanyane and reality star (Living The Dream With Somizi) Bahumi Madisakwane will portray the Boom Shaka singer at various stages of her life.
The six-part series, Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story will begin in the heart of the 90s during the kwaito evolution when Lebo rose to iconic fame and became a celebrated South African household name and role model for the youth.
