ON Sunday it was all jubilation in the Eastern Cape (EC) as the newly crowned Miss SA Zozibini “Zozi” Tunzi received a huge welcoming at Mthatha Airport. The EC’s own Zozi was received by her father Lungisa, who gave her the beaded necklace she was wearing (see pics).
Tsolo-born Miss South Africa 2019, Zozibini, was greeted by a large crowd of singing and dancing fans and friends, she later joined a group of Xhosa traditional dancers.
Seeing how well she was received, she posted on her Instagram saying that she has never in her life imagined coming home would be like this (captioning a video of the crowd).
“It is indeed true that it takes a village to raise a child. Thank you kubantu bakuTsolo nase Mthatha (thank you people of Tsolo and Mthatha) for coming to see me at the airport. I’m forever grateful,” she shares.
“I stand on the shoulders of giants! Because of them clearing the path we can run towards victory together! Thank you to the honourable Minister of Communications, Telecommunications for joining in my homecoming celebrations,” she says.
According to Dispatch Live leading the line of dignitaries there to welcome her was AmaMpondomise king-designate Luzuko Matine, along with his traditional leaders, and elders from the Tolo clan, where Tunzi was born at Sidwadweni village, about 15km outside Mthatha.
Dispatch Live also reports that the welcoming party was arranged by her family and the Tolo clan and joined by government officials.
