As much as women are facing the scourge of Gender-Based-Violence (GBV) globally, Penny Lebyane said that she’s going to focus on South African women who are constantly under attack, alluding to the fact that women are dealing with GBV.
Penny Lebyane said that she has found herself dragged violently in a Sunday World headline in a court case that involves DJ Fresh and poet Ntsiki Mazwai.
On Sunday the paper reported that DJ Fresh, real name Thato Sikwane has applied for a court interdict against Ntsiki Mazwai.

The application by DJ Fresh comes after the controversial singer allegedly posted tweets labeling him a “rapist”.
According to reports, Fresh apparently said that it was apparent that Ntsiki Mazwai made her statements based on a social media post dated September 9, 2019, without verifying facts.

Meanwhile, Penny Lebyane said that she took a moment to reflect, to consult with her family and to understand what this means.
She said she realized that as much as she’s been cited in a document that is not directly about her, but about her and other women who can be found in positions such as hers – being silenced.

“…I find myself in a position where I am silenced without understanding the context of why. In the founding affidavit that has been submitted to the Johannesburg High Court, there’s a paragraph where I am stated and I am going to be addressing it as we continue with this conversation,” she said.
Penny Lebyane made it public that she’s working in an industry where she understands the dynamics of power that is wielded by men who are in positions of power, who use male privilege, patriarchy, the court systems, money, and anything that they have access to, to police, manage, control, harass, and eventually silence women voices.

She said that after consultations with her legal team and family she has instructed her lawyers to issue a letter to DJ Fresh in relation to the citation of herself (Penny Lebyane) and that of her brand in the founding affidavit against Ntsiki.
Penny Lebyane said that in the court document DJ Fresh said that he dated her briefly in 2001 (19-years-ago) and he broke up with her because their relationship was toxic, including a restraining order being obtained against her.
Penny Lebyane has distanced herself from being the originator of the post that Ntsiki Mazwai is being dragged to the cleaners for. She also denied being served with a restraining order 19-years-ago or anytime.

“I would like proof to be presented, that states that I am the originator of the post. As for the part ‘I briefly dated her 19 years ago’ part, I will not entertain gas-lighting from 19-years-ago,” said Penny Lebyane.
Penny also requested DJ Fresh (through his legal team) to explain the toxicity of their (then) relationship, referencing mental health as something that was close to her heart.
“…My legal team will respond accordingly. Thank you, keep warm, God bless,” wrote on her official Twitter account – directing people to her full video posted on her Instagram page.
