Mr JazziQ took to Instagram on June 31, that he will be hosting the first amapiano podcast, “this Monday I bring to you South Africa’s first amapiano podcast hosted by yours truly. JazziQ and friends in conversation at Spitz documenting the culture”
Coming with something hot and new, Mr JazziQ is bringing something for youth. The podcast will share details regarding the culture which many South Africans have an interest in.
The podcast will be about amapiano, news chats and fashion. The podcast is sponsored by the brand Spitz, a South African footwear and accessories brand that houses international brands. The podcast is also recorded and shot at a Spitz store.
The first episode aired yesterday on YouTube. It featured amapiano artist Sizwe Alakine. Mr JazziQ says for the first episode they are celebrating the sound of the youth and how the amapiano genre is evolving and reaching so many over the world.
In the beginning of the episode, they speak about Sizwe’s name change, going from Reason to Sizwe Alakine. Sizwe says that being an amapiano artist and using the name Reason felt awkward to him.

He continues that the name change was personal, and he feels that amapiano is personal to him. During the podcast, Sizwe mentions that “Alakine” came from the late amapiano artist Mpura.
In the podcast, Alakine mentions that there were some hip-hop artists who told him that he should thank them for paving the way of leaving hip-hop and going to piano.
The artist mentions that he felt that being Reason was not cool anymore and he felt dead. He mentions that it was time for the new hip-hop artists. He mentions Nasty C and Blxckie.
They mention that there was a time South African hip-hop took over the country and spaces for sounds like House music was not that big. They mention that every genre has its time when it is booming.
Is there a beef between Amapiano and Hip-Hop? Mr JazziQ asks Sizwe what he thinks about the beef between the two genres. The artist says that hip-hop is not dead, but the artists are. Both artists feel like amapiano is controlled by the artists characters.
Sizwe says that amapiano artists live a rapper’s life. The way they dress, what they wear and the cars they drive. They believe that having a division between the two genres does not make sense as in some sense the genres go hand in hand.
“Internet changed my life” says Mr JazziQ. The artists feel that during COVID-19 when people started using more internet and jumping into the app TikTok, that changed their lives.
The artists come to a conclusion that there should be no beef between the two genres as they could both coexist.
What Mr JazziQ is doing with the podcast is something good for the culture as it starts a conversation informs listeners in depth about the culture.
