We had a chat with Kamo Moth as one of our Rising Stars to really look out for in the entertainment industry.
Born and raised in the City of Roses aka Bloemfontein, Kamo Moth is also one of the hopefuls to be the next BET Africa presenter alongside Nomalanga Shozi. #MyBETBreak auditions were open from the 10th of January to the 7th of February.
Whether Kamo wins the BET presenter search or not, she had this to say about BET: “I’d like to give BET a huge shout out for making way for new talent and playing their part in making sure dreams are realized. Thank you for standing in the gap and doing your part in giving all presenters (known and unknown) a chance to showcase talent. It’s these types of initiatives that keep us going and growing.”

Talking about her audition, Kamo Moth said that as a perfectionist she always feels like one can do better but this time around she really put her foot in ti by keeping it simple and she wasn’t trying too much.
“I just wanted to be me. I am pretty chuffed. 10 out of 10 is not bad, but I really want to give the people what they want and that’s 20 out of 10 aka greatness,” said Kamo Moth.
“I dropped out of law school to chase my dream. I always wanted to be an actress and Tony Kgoroge gave me a young shot but I guess it didn’t stick and radio then happened to me. Radio is the jack to my rose, swept me off my feet and boom I was in love.

“Fast forward to 2018 – 2019 those 3 episodes of MTV Newsish were pretty lit but I still wasn’t too sold on being on the screen until Tbo Touch approached me about being on The Take Off (breakfast show which was on Soweto TV) and that’s how the television bug bit me,” shares Kamo Moth.
What makes Kamo SPECIAL?
Everything. Cliche maybe but true. We’re all so unique that it is that very uniqueness that sets us apart. I am special because I am me and as they say, no one is you and that is your power. I don’t know a statement more real than this. *side note* feel free to mention that I’m actually super funny …oh wait and obviously gorgeous and uhm insane which is really normal by the way (laughs) ok I just thought I’d stop being so deep lol!

Who do you look up to?
Bonang Matheba, Rihanna and Oprah. By the way, I just gave you my short, medium and long term goals, yup it’s embodied in these 3 individuals. Fun fact: Rihanna and I share a birthday! Wild right?!
What’s your idea of life and the crazy entertainment world?
Life just deserves to be lived. It’s really not that deep. Live it loud and bold. Don’t be afraid to color outside the borders, sometimes that’s where you find magic. I don’t find the entertainment world crazy but that’s probably because I’m crazy. To me, it’s fulfilling because I’ve been blessed enough to be doing what I love. I’m not desperate, I’m just destined.

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to bag it (MyBETBreak)?
I absolutely believe and know that I have what it takes to bag the gig and this isn’t my ego speaking, I’m just stating facts on facts. Bobby Knight once said that the key is not the will to win… everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important. If you know me then you know that I stay on ready, set and go!
What makes you so confident about it?
Honestly, the secret for me is Timing. There’s a certain vibe that comes with God’s timing and that 100% makes me confident not just about this but many other things I set my eye on. And I cannot neglect to mention the love and support I received from social media after I posted my audition, that right there was like a high 5 from the heavens. Shout out to EVERYBODY!

Say you get the BET gig, what will you add to the BET brand?
You know when people ask what do you bring to the table? Well… I am the table! I hope I answered you. But on the real apart from being the damn table, I think there’s a spunk about me that people resonate with and whatever it is, I like that it sparks up a world of possibilities for people. Let’s them know that Black Child It Is Possible and with a Brand which constantly celebrates Black Excellence, come on, name a better combo.
