Singer Simphiwe Dana has announced that she’s gay and she’s marrying a woman. “I’ve been holding this in since forever. I’m gay,” she says!

Simphiwe Dana also revealed the lover of her life saying that: “I’m marrying her. She’s coming home to me today. We are so happy.”
Simphiwe Dana also admitted knowing that coming out means Africa will block her.
“I know coming out means Africa will block me. But, after a lot of thinking, I’m ok with it. I’m marrying a woman, and I’ve never been happier,” says Simphiwe Dana – who has been vocal about Gender-Based-Violence (GBV).
“Thank you for your courage in living out your truth. I know this was not an easy decision to make, because of the ignorance + prejudice still directed at members of the LGBTQ community. But please know there are many out here who stand with you. There is far more love than hate,” says Karyn Maughan – Legal Journalist.

Simphiwe Dana thanked all those who support her saying that she’s scared of what her coming out means. But she knows it was important that she does.

Simphiwe Dana’s girlfriend is Pumeza Matshikiza – a South African international Opera singer based in Berlin.
Described as “one of today’s most exciting new operatic voices” (Independent), Pumeza Matshikiza is one of today’s respected opera stars. Being an exclusive Decca Classics recording artist, she already released two albums: her debut album “Voice of Hope”, featuring arias and traditional and popular African songs, and “Arias” with a selection of operatic arias and songs from her current repertoire.

Pumeza Matshikiza kicks off the 20/21 season, making house and two role debuts as Bess and Serena in a new production of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess at the Theater an der Wien. Besides that, she gives special New Year concerts with the Salzburg Philharmonic Orchestra, singing famous opera arias and excerpts from Astor Piazzolla’s tango-opera Maria de Buenos Aires. The soprano can also be heard in a gala concert alongside Rolando Villazón at Sopot Classic Festival and in a solo recital at West Wicklow Festival Ireland.
