Following the allegations made by African National Congress’ Boy Mamabolo during the state of the nation address (SONA), Julius Malema’s wife, Mantoa Matlala is demanding a retraction.
During the SONA Boy Mamabolo took shots at Julius Malema saying that his wife was abused at home by the Economic Freedom Fighters’ leader, Julius Malema.

“Mantwa (sic) was abused at home by honorable Malema… They won’t deny it because it’s true,” alleged Boy Mamabolo.
A letter sent to Boy Mamabolo states that he should retract the statements made against Mantoa Matlala.
The Attorneys are demanding that Boy Mamabolo’s retraction should take the following form:
- Apologize to our client for the allegations made; and
- Retract the statements made against Mantoa Matlala on account of them being untrue and defamatory of her,
- The public statement is to be shared by Boy Mamabolo on all his social media accounts,
- Issued as a press statement in his name,
- Sent to all media houses with which he conducted interviews with…

“Should you fail to do so, we hold instructions to institute further legal action against you which action we will institute damages against our client in the amount of R1 000 000.00 (One Million Rand) and seek punitive costs against you,” reads the letter.
The letter from Mantoa Matlala’s attorneys also reads that Boy Mamabolo’s defamatory statements gravely disappoint their client.

“To proceed to mock victims of Gender-Based Violence, especially in the current climate our country is facing, by accusing innocent people of it just to tarnish their image or “settle a score” is unacceptable of a person in our current society, most especially a person who is a member of Parliament.
“Out client is disgusted by Gender-Based Violence and the rate in which more and more women are abused in South Africa. Should the accusations levelled against our client and her husband have any merit whatsoever, our client (Mantoa Matlala) would have attended to the nearest police station to report same. Our client does not require you to be her voice,” reads the statement from Ian Levitt Attorneys.

The letter also makes Boy Mamabolo aware that Julius Malema and his wife have small children, the oldest being 13-years-old.
“Your false accusations have now cast a dark cloud over the entire family. These children now need to attend schooling and be mocked and ridiculed due to the false accusations levelled against their parents. Your false accusations have caused grave harm and damage to the family,” reads the letter.
Julius Malema also accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of abusing his late ex-wife and refused to retract the statement.
