Durban based DJ Catzico, real name Sibonelo Nqubuka says DJ Maphorisa heard their work on the internet in 2017 and during the Durban July (same year) they decided to meet up and a joint venture agreement was signed between themselves, Blaqboy Music and a huge record label known to this publication only.

“We signed at his label as artists but we ended up being producers. We never released any songs as artists. We had a deal of two albums with Maphorisa. We did make music and the other label would love a song and Maphorisa didn’t send them the files as required. He took our ideas and used them as his own. In some projects we would get credit and some not,” says DJ Catzico.
The DJ on Tuesday told MGOSI.co.za that they were staying at Maphorisa’s Midrand home, together with him and other artists who belonged to Blaqboy Music.

“We left his company around September in 2018 when we noticed that he’s not releasing any of our music. He didn’t want us to leave his house because he wanted to continue to exploit our ideas,” says DJ Catzico.
The DJ said that whatever Maphorisa will say is a lie and they will prove it with a voice note from him, which according to the DJ contains very “sensitive” information that they would like to keep for now.
“Our publishers are handling the matter and if there’s a problem with the outcome we will see what actions to take. We just want him to stop using our ideas.

“We understand that when we were still signed under Blaqboy Music whatever contribution we brought forward belonged to his company, but now we are no longer under his company. Yet he continues to steal our creativity. He knows Emcimbini As’khuzeki was initially Ebumnandini As’khuzeki and he changed it,” claims DJ Catzico.
On Monday Maphorisa told MGOSI.co.za that he was busy and we should call him back in 30-minutes but his phone rang to voicemail. He also failed to respond to a text sent to him via WhatsApp.
DJ Katzico also confirmed to MGOSI.co.za that they are no longer working with Maphorisa’s company, Blaqboy Music and they will never work with again.
