“A Thread-It has come to our attention that a well-known Artist in the industry, on a personal mission has been going around attempting to discredit the awards. Several Artists have approached us on condition of anonymity to inform us of what this Artist is doing,” wrote SAAPA on their official Twitter account.
The organizers of the Amapiano Awards said that the awards are here to stay.
“We would like to make it clear that the South African Amapiano Music Awards are here to stay. It is okay not to appreciate the Awards, but do not discredit them to nurture personal agendas,” said SAAPA.
The organizers have vowed that they will see to it that Amapiano is recognized by the world even more.
“Behind the Awards is a group of young passionate black people making sure that this vision comes to fruition, and that this genre and its artists grow further to their fullest potential. Amapiano to the world and we will see to it that this happens,” SAAPA said.
The South African Amapiano Music Awards was created by the Amapiano Governing Body, an independent organization made up of industry professionals and stakeholders. The organization is led by an accomplished businessman and founder of Bio Tissue Cosmetics, Vusi Silora.
“The organization felt like Amapiano was not receiving enough acknowledgment. These young kids work so hard and despite Amapiano having existed for nearly a decade now, there hasn’t been an Awards show that fully embraced their talent. We are doing this for the culture and it is our goal as the Governing Body to see these young artists receive the trophies that are due to them,” said SAAPA.
DJ Maphorisa is one of the artists who asked who were the founders of Amapiano Music Awards before it was revealed that it was Vusi Silora.
