Fans of the music genre questioned why acts like Njelic who produced hits after hits like Shesha Geza, Liyashona, and Nana Thula were not recognized as nominees. Riky Rick’s nomination is also raising eyebrows, as individuals do not identify him as an Amapiano artist but a musician that is following a trend and the wave of the genre. Tweeps are associating the awards with identifying artists that are trending on socials rather than those deserving of recognition like the initiators of Amapiano.
“You guys are awarding people like Riky Rick & Uncle Vinny who are just riding the wave and sidelining artists like Gaba Canal, Jaivane, Kevin Momo, Njelic. This genre will die soon because you choose to appreciate wave riders and not the root of the genre.” – @dumisane_ tweeted.
Fans are not pleased with Uncle Vinny being nominated over a number of artists that have pioneered the genre regardless of him being under the Dance Act category, together with Pabi Cooper. The names of Kelvin Momo, ATK Music, Killer Kau, and Mdu aka Trp, are the topic on the socials as to why they are not amongst the nominees.
