Just some minuets ago Unathi made a post on Instagram titled Therapy Tuesday. She sends such an informative message along with the post. She says “FEELINGS have no gender. Emotions and how we experience them have no gender bias. Feelings that we derive from our circumstances, moods and relationships with others are not gender specific.”

She explains that the reason behind this statement is that she was asked how she deals with her son’s emotions vs her daughters emotions. She says, “We all experience adoration, admiration, fear, joy, relief, awkwardness, confusion, excitement, interest and etc, in the same way. No matter what our background is.” Unathi explains that she knows not to invalidate any experience both her children say they have in their lives.

Tips for parents
Many of her fans can agree that the message she shared with us is powerful and speaks volumes about her parenting. This is a very empowering message for black parents in particular. Emotions are non-gender specific. Due to factors such as culture and traditional beliefs many parents want to treat their children’s feeling according to a gender bias. Not knowing and understanding that a person’s feelings depend on his or her circumstances, emotions, and relations. These things have nothing to do with one’s specific gender.
