Two days ago, the South African Music Awards (SAMA26) released the names of the artists that are nominated for this year’s SAMA26. This talk of the town has rubbed-off a lot of South African artists on the wrong side. And DJ Maphorisa went some ambush-style by expressing that he was gatvol!

Coined the popular Amapiano music genre, after he was nominated, DJ Maphorisa took his frustrations to Twitter and lambasted the SAMA26, alluding to the fact that he was not impressed with nominations.
“I am nominated ko di SAMA and I don’t give a fuck about them… KOKO, Love u tonight, Akulaleki, etc,” says DJ Maphorisa.
DJ Maphorisa followed on Busiswa’s footsteps and questioned the fact that Mas Music, Sha Sha, Master KG, Makhadzi Muimbi, and King Monada being shut out by SAMA26.

“But what about Mas Music, Shasha, Master KG, Makhadzi, King Monada it’s a lot, real talk.” He adds. The Amapiano producer feels like there is a lot to be done about this because it seems like the SAMA judges or committee have their own favorite artists when it comes to choosing who should shine at the SAMA26.
“This thing of 5 people sitting on a table and choosing their favorite artists must end ke masipa (it’s sh!t). It’s killing an African child’s dream, last year you f$$$$d up Mlindo The Vocalist” expresses DJ Maphorisa.
Maphorisa also boldly says that he is okay with the SAMAs, putting a stamp on his statement by giving them the middle finger.

“Ke sharp ka di SAMA f$$k them, we need online awards where everyone can vote and be a part of.” Suggests Maphorisa.
Basically, Maphorisa gave the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA – hosts of the SAMAs) a middle finger.
Maphorisa further said that he is going to start South African Music Awards where fans and music lovers alike will nominate and decide who gets recognition by being awarded the deserved accolade(s).

The SAMA committee has since acknowledged all concerns raised in relation to their processes.
“We value the contribution of all South African musicians and we acknowledge your concerns. Please see the #SAMA26 ‘Record Of The Year’ and ‘Music Video Of The Year’ selection process for further clarification on how it works,” as posted on their official social media accounts.
