SAMA 26 introduces new categories and the Best Kwaito Album category is back, to replace the Best Kwaito/Gqom/Amapiano. This category will encompass Gqom and Amapiano as sub-genres under the kwaito umbrella body.
Recording Industry of South Africa CEO, Adv Nhlanhla Sibisi says that the recognition of these awards is part of a continuing exercise to keep the SAMAs relevant and a proper reflection of the trends and direction South African music is taking.

“We still urge musicians to submit their entries for SAMA26/SAMAs consideration. There is no bigger platform to honour and recognise local music talent across the spectrum than the SAMA,” says Adv Nhlanhla Sibisi.
While the call to entry for this year’s SAMA26 kicks into full gear, the organisers are pleased to announce changes in the following categories.

The Best Kwaito Album category is back, to replace the Best Kwaito/Gqom/Amapiano. This category will encompass Gqom and Amapiano as sub-genres under the kwaito umbrella body.
The Music Video of the Year Award has become a public voted category like the Record of the Year Award. This will afford fans a chance to make their voices heard when it comes to the music video that got them entertained in the last year. The award will be for the artist. – SAMAs.

On the technical side, a newly minted category is Best Produced Music Video has been introduced. It honors directors and producers of music videos. Music videos are storytelling tools and are aligned to the message of the song. Directors and producers put much effort into ensuring that a brilliant quality music video that captures the desired outcome from the audience is made. – SAMAs
SAMA 25’s Best Hip Hop Album of the Year was scooped by Nasty C for his album Strings and Bling.

SAMAs are still calling for musicians who have released new works between February 1, 2019, and January 31, 202, to submit their music for consideration of these prestigious awards.
And there is a myriad of categories on offer that musicians may be eligible to enter.
