South African music legend, Dennis East was a songwriter and musical producer originally from Pietermaritzburg. Who started his musical career in the late 1960s.
Performing with The Rising Sons in the 1970s. Shortly after that he formed the rock band Stingray with other South African musicians in 1979.
The great musician passed away on Monday, September 12. After he suffered a stroke on Friday, September 9. At the age of 73.
According to Jacaranda FM, the Durban-born artist’s death was confirmed by the South African Legends Museum. Tributes have been pouring in for East on social media following news of his passing.
Dennis was a singer-songwriter and a music producer who collaborated with several big names in the industry.
He worked with the likes of British musician Andrew Young and Mzansi’s Zwai Bala. East was also a part of the popular talent competition Coca Cola Pop Stars.
East is best known for his singles Could You Ever Love Me Again, Peace Will Be Mine, Talking In Your Sleep and Red Hot Lover.

In accordance with a Facebook post by local musician Dalene Genis, the singer-songwriter and producer passed away at around 10:00 on Monday.
She also mentioned that the musician had fought long and hard, but the stroke caused too much damage. In a sense that medical practitioners could not save his life.
“The stroke he suffered on Friday did too much damage and the doctors could not save him,” she wrote.
“You will be missed and you were so loved. RIP Denn – fly with the angels. Love you always.”
