President Cyril Ramaphosa pays a moving tribute to the late award-winning jazz legend Jonas Gwangwa (trombone layer)! He died at the age of 83!
The legendary musician is known for hit songs such as Cry Freedom, Batsumi, Morwa, and Back To Orlando East among others.
He was awarded the order of Inkamanga for his exceptional contribution to music and the struggle for freedom.

Cyril Ramaphosa said that a giant of our revolutionary cultural movement and our democratic creative industries have been called to rest.
“The trombone that boomed with boldness and bravery, and equally warmed our hearts with a mellow melody has lost its life force. #RIPJonasGwangwa” wrote Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa said that Jonas Gwanga ascends to our great orchestra of musical ancestors whose creative genius and dedication to the freedom of all South Africans inspired millions in our country and mobilized the international community against the apartheid system.

President Ramaphosa has called on prayer.
“In our hour of mourning the loss of many precious lives around us, we pray also that the soul of Jonas Gwangwa will rest in peace,” wrote Ramaphosa.
“Jonas Gwangwa with my daughter Thembi Mda (Picture captioned). He passed on last night. A great freedom fighter & musician. He conducted Amandla Ensemble. In 1987 he was nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Music for Cry Freedom, directed by Richard Attenborough and featuring Denzel Washington,” captioned author Zakes Mda.
