The Managing Director of Mzansi Educational Tours, Themba Humana has come out tongue-lashing in a series of tweets (@trevor_vanmatt) alleging that Gallo Record Company is one of the reasons why Idols SA’s runner-up Thami Shobede ended in a hospital bed from the beginning and allegedly didn’t pay a dime to make sure that Thami gets help.
“Not Even Just A Visit! They Can Sue Me For This Tweet, I Don’t Care,” Themba Humana on 19 September 2019.
Themba says that Thami wanted out, his friends and manager requested a meeting with Gallo Records but they were told that he has a 5-year contract with them so he’s under them.
He also said that Thami did a very beautiful song with DJ Maphorisa and Mlindo but Gallo said that song will not be released because Thami is signed to them.
“Most ff the gigs Thami got them through friends yet Gallo would still come in to get a certain percentage. They hardly got gigs for him but whenever he strikes himself a gig through friends they come flying for his hard-earned money. They didn’t care about him, they only cared about what he was making for them.
“When they were told that Thami is admitted to Kalafong Hospital they never visited nor contributed anything but as soon as they were informed about his passing they became the first to post on social media about his passing. That’s Gallo Record Company for you.
“When they were approached about arrangements they said they can only contribute R5000. Gallo Record Company never paid Thami his Royalties from 2017 till today,” alleges Themba.
Trevor says that Recording Companies are killing our artists, radio stations are killing our talent, the Department of Arts and Culture doesn’t recognise our artists. “Thami wanted to get out of the contract with Gallo Record Company but they refused to let him go,” he alleges.
“Radio stations didn’t play Thami’s music! After his passing that’s when they played his music left, right and center, Art and Culture Department can you guys come up with a new law or do something about the Recording Companies to free artists when they want to leave,” pleads Themba.
Themba asks:
- How Many Artists Must Be Consumed By Depression Before Something To Prevent It Can Be Done?
- How Many Artists Must We Lose?
- Recording Companies please free our artists when they don’t feel like working with you anymore.
“Most of Recording Companies are the ones killing our artists, they use them, they exploit them! Many of our artists are dying inside because of the same reasons and they are broken inside. You’ll see them out there giving you the best performance but deep inside they are broken, helpless and slowly dying but you can’t even notice that because they are expected to always smile with their fans and give them the best as expected from them,” says Themba.
Trevor warns that behind the glitz and glamour we see on stage it’s really bad.
“Our artists are struggling and dying, depression is real, especially in that industry and it’s caused by the very same record label you trusted they will lift your career,” he says in a series of tweets.
