Seasoned South African television producer and actress Portia Gumede says that nobody will blacklist any actors as long as they just stick to the truth and trust their talent(s) to see them through.
“Nobody is going to blacklist anyone. Nobody is going to silence anyone who is ready to stand up & bring about change. Just stick to the truth and trust your talent to see you through,” wrote Portia Gumede on Twitter.
The move by Portia Gumede was to encourage actors not to fear when it comes to exposing the truth and stand up for what is right, instead of dying inside.
The fear has been there according to many industry peers, but this week it was elevated after popular television actress Vatiswa Ndara dropped a bombshell on Ferguson Films accusing them of exploiting artists.
Various local actors took to social media to air their dissatisfaction with the acting industry and some feared if they speak out they will be blacklisted and will never get any acting gigs in South Africa.
Portia Gumede is a screenwriter and has worked on Gold Diggers, Sokhulu and Partners, Zabalaza, including Shreds and Dreams to name a few.
Portia Gumede has acted on popular local television shows such as Home Affairs, Going up Again, Backstage, Egoli, Stokvel, Soul City and Sibahle, a short film. She also appeared in Leon Schuster’s movie Oh Schucks, I’m Gatvol.
