“An extra R500 000 was pledged. Making it R1 million worth of bursaries. Thank you! Thank you Hollywoodbets. I can’t believe we get to change even more lives,” wrote Nomzamo Mbatha.
Before the announcement was made on Monday, The Lighthouse Foundation had said that R500 000 was pledged but R547 000 was the final amount from a young woman who’s an orphan and needed a year’s tuition to specialize in Early Child Development Education to a young man pursuing his final year in Actuarial Science, including a mom of 1 who has a desire to finish her MBA at Business School.

“I never in a million years thought we would receive close to 40 000 entries/applications. All very compelling and from individuals who wanted to better their lives. My team was definitely working overtime to get through candidates with due diligence,” reads a statement issued by The Nomzamo Mbatha Lighthouse Foundation.
In the statement, Nomzamo Mbatha said that she was so grateful to be able to be a part of changing the course of people’s lives, as was hers when a company-sponsored her tertiary studies when she was an 18-year-old girl full of potential but with nowhere to go.

“If you did not receive a letter confirming the success of your application please do not be deterred. As I always say, there will be many No’s but it takes that one big yes that will change the trajectory of your life. Stay on course and run with the faith in your heart,” said Nomzamo Mbatha – Lighthouse Foundation.
Nomzamo said that this was the first of many.
“I know that this fund will grow into millions to reach as far and wide as I possibly can. Thank you Hollywoodbets for standing besides The Lighthouse Foundation and believing in its vision,” said Nomzamo Mbatha.
