CONGRATULATIONS: OUR very own Nomzamo Mbatha has joined the cast of Coming 2 America, Paramount’s sequel to its popular 1988 comedy. She will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones and Kiki Layne who are among the Comey’s newscast members.
In a statement released, the actress credited all glory to God, stating that it is truly unreal to her. She says the sacrifices have paid off and the goal was never insurmountable, but rather a path of commitment, diligent work, and sacrifices by herself and her team.
She says moving to LA was a choice of faith, and God has surpassed her wildest dreams. She describes the moment as “bigger” than her – and dedicates it to every single girl who doubts herself or just how big her God is.
The actress left South Africa for Los Angeles months ago and says the decision was made in faith (faith always knows) that projects like these would be available.
“My life is a testament to that. My life says God is bigger than ginormous! I am grateful, I am humbled, I am honoured to be cast in Coming 2 America,” – Nomzamo Mbatha
Nomzamo starred on Isibaya as well as the series Umlilo, on which she played a villain. She also starred in the feature Tell Me Sweet Something.
Nomzamo is also the face for Puma, Audi, Neutrogena, and L’Oreal Hair, and also acts as UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
The first film saw Murphy play Prince Akeem, a spoiled prince from the fictional African nation of Zamunda, who arrives in Queens and in undercover fashion gets a job at a McDonald’s knockoff while trying to find a wife.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The new story sees Akeem, now set to become king, discovering he has a son he never knew about, a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father’s dying wish to groom his son as a newly crowned prince, Akeem must once again return to America.
Character details for Nomzamo are being kept under wraps.
Paramount has set a Dec. 18, 2020, release date for the picture.
They round out a cast of newcomers and returnees for the film, which stars Eddie Murphy and is being directed by Craig Brewer. The pic is set to begin shooting next week.
