Lalela Mswane, the reigning Miss South Africa 2021 has experienced a lot of controversy about attending the Miss Universe Pageant. The controversy was based on the venue of the pageant which was in the southern resort city of Eilat in Israel.

Regardless of the #NotMYMissSouthAfrica! Movement. And the South African Government withdraw support for Lalela Mswane and asking her to drop out. She attended the Miss Universe pageant and even came out runner up. Competing against, Miss Paraguay, Miss Colombia, Miss Philippines and the crowned Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu, from India.

She says “If I had not come to Israel to compete in the Miss Universe Pageant, I think I would have regretted it for the rest of my life. My soul would have not been at peace if I had skipped it.” She says she chose to be optimistic regardless of the concerns the people and the Government of South Africa had.
During the pageant Lalela wore an all-white outfit which was meant to represent the dove of peace. She described it as the spirit of Ubuntu. Referring to the controversy Lalela says she definitely believes in cancel culture as much as she believes in redemption culture. As people should be given a chance to redeem themselves.
