Legendary actress and friend Lillian Dube said that they both came from Orlando East in Soweto and they were both Orlando Pirates supporters.
“We both came from Orlando East… and we were both Mabhakabhaka. Our friendship when it happened we just clicked and we were able to say anything to each other without the other getting upset. We were bosom buddies,” said Dr. Lillian Dube.

Dr. Lillian Dube said that the last time she was with Mary Twala is when she had gone to visit her in Hospital.
“The last time we were together I went to see her in hospital… she was happy and when I left I kissed her and that was the first time I kissed her. Right now, please don’t get me wrong, I am happy for her because she’s been sick for a very long time but she was a strong lady,” said Lillian Dube.
Lillian Dube also shared what really amused her about Mary Twala, especially when she got the role of MaKhambule on SABC2’s sitcom Skwizas.

“On Skwizas we gave her a part where she didn’t have to say anything but sleep on the couch and drink. Guess what? Mary won an award for sleeping on the couch and said nothing,” laughed Lillian Dube as she shares the greatest moments she had with Mary Twala.
Lillian Dube said that Mary Twala was the most fortunate actress because people loved her and they did everything when she was still alive.

Lillian Dube also recalled few invites she shared with Mary Twala, including being invited to a department of education function by the minister of basic education Angie Motshekga where she tagged along with Mary.
She jokingly said that Mary Twala should not wait for because she also needs to be 80-years-old or more.

“I really found myself so blessed to have worked with you, my friend. I am glad that you made Skwizas so popular. People watched Skwizas because of MaKhambule which was your mother’s name,” said Lillian Dube.
Dr. Dube passed her condolences to Somizi Mhlongo and the entire family for their loss.

While details surrounding her funeral have not been announced as yet, calls for the government to ensure that she is honoured as one of the nation’s treasures with a state funeral.
