Just when we thought Season 1 of AboMama left us on the edge of our seats, Season 2 is back, packed with more mystery and crime?
The Mzansi Magic series is set in Soweto and Ferndale, where a group of church-going women get caught up in an organized crime and are forced to use their Stokvel as a cover-up for their money-laundering scheme. The God-fearing women believe in the saying “everything happens for a reason” as they try to find a blessing within the hidden tragedy. If you have not caught up on season 1, we suggest you catch up before continuing with the new season!
The first episode of the new season aired on Sunday the 4th of July, and Tweeps were surprised to see that the character they were most looking forward to has been replaced. Khanyi Mbau who played the character of Tshidi is being replaced by the multi-talented Khabonina Qubeka. Tweeps have said it feels like déjà vu as this is not the first time Khabonina has been passed the baton from Khanyi Mbau. In 2006, we saw Khabonina take on the role of Doobsie in the SABC 2 series Muvhango.

Khanyi Mbau expressed to the Sowetan that she will not be joining the second season due to her commitment to filming the sequel of the 2016 box office hit Happiness is a Four-Letter Word. The romantic comedy is called Happiness Ever After which is set to be premiered on Netflix later this year. Khanyi Mbau has sent her well wishes to Khabonina Qubeka telling the Sowetan “It was an unfortunate timing issue. I trust that Khabo will kill it and wish this season all the best”.
Khabonina Qubeka is not the only new cast member, Isithembiso’s Nandi Mbatha, Isono’s Senzo Radebe, and Twitter’s favorite Asavela Mngqithi from Isibaya will be joining the cast, while familiar faces such as Joyce Skefu (Fumane), Kenneth Nkosi (Bonanza) and Nokuthula Ledwaba (Mapule) are still giving the people what they want in Season 2!
