Rapper K.O, real name Ntokozo Mdluli has been awarded the “ambassadorship” of the novel COVID-19 virus. The Gauteng Provincial government has “deliberately” used a suggestive caricature of the rapper as the “face” of the virus without prior seeking consent from the rapper!

A gatvol K.O took to social media after he took note of the Gauteng Provincial Government on Twitter, which warns South Africans about inviting friends for a hang-out, resulting in COVID-19 being present as an uninvited guest.
“What is this?!? Deliberately using a suggestive caricature of myself (and my former Cashtime associates) in this fashion as the face of COVID – NO CONSENT?! A whole GP Government! How low and unscrupulous! I feel violated and extremely disrespected,” fumed K.O.

The video is addressing the spread of COVID-19 in gatherings and how that spread can extend to the circles of those who were present at the gathering. A clear message that if you invite people during this pandemic, you might be inviting people who are either positive with the virus or unaware of their COVID-19 status.

K.O has firmly said that he was “seeking legal advice”

Basically, the provincial office’s lack of creativity has left many of K.O’s fans divided, with some saying he must sue the government dry and some wondering if he can really pursue the matter legally.
As much as other people were fuming at the fact that the video depicts COVID-19 as a “black” person who a township, the City’s message was clear enough to show and relate to its target market that COVID-19 thrives everywhere, putting it closer to the surroundings and use of language that they can relate to.

The video has been watched by more than 150 000 people since its upload in 2014.
The Gauteng Provincial Government has not responded nor acknowledged K.O’s issue of being allegedly used as the “face” of COVID-19.
