Sello Maake KaNcube admitted to Kaya 959 hosts Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka that he was an abusive partner.
The presenters asked him if he had ever abused a woman and he admitted by saying, “Yes I did”.
Sello then took the opportunity to share a bit of advise. “Deal with yourself first. It’s not what the other person does, it’s how you react to it.”
Maake made a promise that he would never lay hands on a woman ever again.
“For as long as I live, it won’t happen again. We have to have honest and sincere conversations about it,” he added.
Speaking on GBV the actor said, “There is gender-based violence that is serial or psycho and there is there gender-based violence that is inter-partner violence and there are those who are rapists and pedophiles.”

The thespian is sharing his truth about his abusive past, and how he worked to rehabilitate himself.
He has taken on many roles in his life, but one he is not proud of is his history of abusing women in relationships. Speaking candidly about his past, the soapie star revealed a side of him not many fans knew.
Sello also opened up about how he rehabilitated his behaviour as an abuser back in the 1980s.
He continued: “For me, it took introspection. When I saw I had my father’s temperament…I practised a timeout”“I realised what was one of the drivers [to the abuse] which was insecurity and jealousy,” he added.
For anyone who is experiencing similar struggles, Sello Maake KaNcube advises: “Deal with yourself first. It’s not what the other person does, it’s how you react to it
And whilst he admits to relapsing in the year 2000, Sello added: “For as long as I live, it won’t happen again”.
On the topic of gender-based violence in South Africa, Sello called on men in particular to have “open and have sincere conversations about it.”
SELLO MAAKE KA NCUBE WIVES
Sello’s new perspective partly goes to his wife Pearl Mbewe, whom he married last year. Also, with Sello being 62 and his wife 40, the age difference has nothing to do with it.
He shared of their relationship in an Instagram post: “I made that decision the day I went to pay lobola when I said to my delegation, please don’t negotiate any amount with the family. Whatever they want, please tell them I will pay it because there are no ways you can put a price on a person who practically saved your career and your life”
He added: “It took me 40 years to find her and God willing, I plan on giving her the best 40 years of life.”
The media personality was previously married to Palesa Mboweni for just eight short months in 2015.
