Former The Lion King and Isibaya actor Andile Gumbi has died. He has been in ICU for the last few days after suffering a heart attack while working on a theatre production Daniel The Musical in Israel, playing King Nebu.
Andile Gumbi who died at the age of 36 was in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest last week.
Daniel The Musical released an official statement on its Facebook page, confirming that Andile Gumbi was hospitalised after he fell ill last Tuesday.

“In the early morning, he deteriorated and suffered a cardiac arrest, but the medical personnel at Shaare Zedek Medical Centre managed to successfully resuscitate him. His present condition is critical.
“It is comforting to know that Andile is receiving the best medical care in the world as he is fighting for his life and the medical professionals are trying to determine the cause of his condition. We further ask that people pray for his speedy and full recovery.

“Our main priority now is to get Andile’s wife to him from South Africa and to ensure that we support him to the best of our ability.
“Thank you to all those who have supported us with prayers, words of encouragement. We came here to be a blessing to Israel and now find ourselves being blessed by Israel,” reads the statement by the production company.

They said they want to thank Deputy Director-General of the Zedek Medical Centre, Dr Ofer Merin and his dedicated staff for the great care they are giving Andile Gumbi.
“We are deeply indebted to you,” reads the statement.
On Friday they issued a second statement confirming that Andile Gumbi was still in ICU and that his wife had been flown to Israel to be by his bedside.
“We thank everyone for your support and for all the prayers for Andile. Andile’s wife will be with him later today and we hope that her presence will help him in his recovery,” said the production in a statement.
