Hulisani Ravele has fired Bantu after he asked for a kiss. The heart-broken Hulisani says that on Friday Bantu was working at her home when he requested to shower her with a kiss.outh African television personality
The short message service (SMS) sent to Bantu reads as follows, “Dear Bantu, following Friday’s incident where you asked for a kiss at the end of our meeting, I have taken the decision to terminate my working (relationship) with you on my home renovation project.
“You crossed a boundary, made me feel uncomfortable, disrespected and violated. There is no undoing it. I can never trust you in my space and my home after that. Please do not make an attempt to contact me via any means, whether to apologise or to explain. Thank you,” she wrote.
“Just another day for a woman in SA… This happened on Friday, I thought about it so much since then; questioning if I did something wrong? When? how…I’d worked with him before on something for my place, so the trust was there…,” Hulisani Ravele says.
Hulisani says that the incident made her remember an ex of hers who was never comfortable with her having meetings with gents at her place.
“Remembered an ex of mine who was never comfortable with me having meetings with gents at my place & my response would be “no man, there’s no need to worry, I know him”…But in this case, where measurements of my place had to be done, where else was I supposed to me with him?” she questions.
Hulisani Ravele on Monday tweeted that she spoke to a few guy friends to gauge if she was overreacting.
“I spoke to a few guy friends to gauge if I was just overreacting…I told them I was going to send this message & one of them asked ‘aren’t you scared of a confrontation?’ My response was “if I don’t make him know that what he did was wrong, he will think his behaviour is OK.
“Ladies, I know speaking up for yourself is never easy, and the circumstances don’t always lend themselves to you being able to. But where you can, do. Not just for yourself, but for the next sister who won’t be able to speak up or stand up or fight off an entitled pig like this,” Hulisani Ravele says.
Someone tweeted that she might have read wrong signs from Bantu.
“How TF is he reading wrong signs when I always refer to him as “bhut’wam”!!!? When he texts “nice speaking to you after so long” and I say nothing. HOW!? It’s exactly comments like this that make you feel like you did something wrong as a woman, that no one will believe you,” she responded.
Hulisani Ravele says that she is still looking for a carpenter (if you come with interior design skills, even better) or if your company can provide both services.
She has emphasised that she is looking for a female. Kindly drop your portfolio of work to firstname.lastname@example.org.
