“When you join a team it’s either things go good or bad. So I joined a team that was doing well… a lot of influence from home because they’re supporters of the team. It didn’t work out for me because when I got there obviously they have a lot of quality players and it’s not a patient team, and I am coming from a team where in the past few months I was not playing as regularly as I should…
“Getting there I still needed time, momentum to get used to the different philosophy that I was getting into… I played and played and they took me off to give me time to get used to their style of playing,” says George Lebese.
Couldn’t pitch for 11V11 Training Sessions
George Lebese says it was not the same after that.
“It got worse when I couldn’t pitch on an 11V11 training and I don’t know why I didn’t pitch,” says George Lebese.

George Lebese admitted to Robert Marawa that it wasn’t about Kaizer Chiefs but the offer he got from Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Sitting there I was thinking it’s too good to be true and all these promises… So I made the move and it was an oops,” he says.
Wearing a Sundowns jersey and being a traitor
He says that there was a lot of pressure coming from Kaizer Chiefs and with all the supporters that were disappointed.

“I got a lot of messages, got sworn by a lot of fans telling me that I was traitor. It was unexpected that I would take such a decision. All the supporters were hoping that I would stay there for long and become the next legend of the team,” says George Lebese.
We don’t wanna kill you
George Lebese says things started to go left after the Polokwane City game where he scored 1 goal before half time.
“After the Polokwane City game where I scored I was asked how do I feel because I look like I can’t keep up. I’m still okay I am getting my confidence back, it’s half time and it’s 1-0. I was told that we gonna take you off because we feel like we need to build you, we don’t wanna kill you. I said it’s okay if it’s for the team’s benefit… I sat on the bench and supported the guys, unfortunately, we lost,” recalls George Lebese.

I never said I was tired
He says when the game was finished he read statements on social media.
“I said I was tired. I’ve never said I’m tired and then they said I am a bit overweight and I accepted that to work on it. I was put on a program for two weeks,” says George Lebese.
He says that he was weighing 78kg and he went down to 60kg.
“I even looked sick at some moment. I trained 3 times a day and I was only eating salads trying to lose weight so that I can go back. I didn’t want to stay at home but I ended up there with my weight loss,” says George Lebese.
Realizing that he needed to exit Sundowns
“I was told that I’m not in the plans which is what I appreciate you know. Being told you’re not gonna be used. We don’t want you here. It’s okay. It’s better than going to training every day and nothing is happening. I was told I am not in the Coach’s plans, I was like okay no problem,” says George Lebese.

Not comfortable to chill with other players
The 30-year-old player who is agent-free and currently hungry to play football says he has all these friends that are playing and it’s not comfortable to sit with them anymore because the conversation always goes back to football.
George Lebese says he never thought it was going to be this hard to find himself on the field again.
