“I’m very excited to be part of this personal recording app…Dolby on: Recording music…please download the app,” said musician Bongo Riot on Tuesday via his official Instagram page.
Dolby said that since the beginning of lockdown in the past few months, content creators have been highly reliant on phone recordings, live streams, and other alternatives to compensate for the lack of studio spaces and venues for live performances.
“Thanks to the technology available at our fingertips in the form of smartphones, these devices are very useful to content creators of all kinds, be it musicians, sound technicians, podcasters or bloggers – but smartphones have limitations,” reads a statement released by Lindokuhle Magasela of HK Strategies on behalf of Dolby.

Dolby has observed that the trend of live online music performances is here to stay, and will probably be growing as a trend over the next few years. This is why Dolby, through Dolby On, aims to help creatives to earn a living through live streaming gigs. Dolby On is a free audio recording and live streaming app available for iOS and Android devices.
“We have seen the rise in virtual showdowns and virtual comedy shows live streaming on various platforms. Dolby On offers user-friendly audio processing options, white noise reduction, and a number of other features to help create music that is more gig-ready,” reads the statement released by Dolby.

Here are some pro-tips to make most of the Dolby On App.
- For video, frame your shot by setting up your phone or tablet, and ensure your space is lit properly. For audio-only recordings, you should experiment with phone placement to get the right mix of sound sources (for example, capturing the right balance of your voice and guitar.)
- Check your levels and keep an eye on the in-app level meter if you’re in the red, reduce your volume or move the phone further away to avoid clipping.
- Should you be using the live streaming feature, make sure you have your Facebook or Twitch feeds available nearby on a separate device so you can view feedback and engage with your viewers in real-time. While live streaming will work from a good cell data signal, we definitely recommend a strong WiFi connection for the best results.
