Internationally acclaimed South African house DJ and producer Nkosinathi Maphumulo, popularly known by his stage name DJ Black Coffee struggled to pay his rent 15 years ago, but DJ Oskido came to his rescue.
At the weekend, Coffee took to his Instagram page and announced that it has been 15 years since he struggled to pay his rent, and by the time he was working on an unofficial remix of Kwanele by Thandiswa Mazwai which was produced by Spikiri. “15 years ago, around this time, while struggling to pay rent and to make ends meet I was working on this (unofficially) remix of this Gem by Thandiswa Mazwai originally produced by the King Don Father Mandla Spikiri.”

DJ Black Coffee added by saying that he didn’t really have a plan on how to submit his work to the label to make it official, “I didn’t really have a plan on how to submit it to the label so it could be official, but I continued to work on it with so much faith that these big artists will eventually hear it and approve it for release.”
DJ Black Coffee’s hard work later paid off as he was given a record deal by DJ Oskido, “fast forward to a few months later with the assistance of the legendary Oskido who gave me my first recording deal for my album, self-titled debut album was released in 2005.”

DJ Oskido who had helped DJ Black Coffee in building his career said, “God is amazing, look at you now bhuda”. In a video he posted on his Instagram it shows fans chanting his name before he started playing, and he concluded his statement by thanking God for the 15 years he has in the music industry.

Since DJ Black Coffee made waves in the music industry the DJ has been travelling across the world making and performing in various gigs, in November 2019 he announced a musical tour in Africa ‘Africa Is Not A jungle’, the Africa Is Not a Jungle tour started in November 2019 and will run till April this year, the tour aims at showcasing talented DJs and producers.
