Former SABC’s Metro FM DJ Grant Shakoane has died. The news of his passing was confirmed by radio personality and close friend Tim Modise on Thursday!

“I’ve just learned from Wilson Nkosi that ‘the Gentle Giant’ Grant Shakoane has passed on. Like many of us and his friends, I’m saddened by the news. I extend my sympathies to Ausi Albertina & family. I wish you strength. Modimo a le fodise #RIPGrantShakoane,” wrote Tim Modise.

“Thank you (Grant Shakoane) for the contributions and paving the way for all of us to follow sir. We forever appreciate you. May the radio gods be with you in heaven. Condolences to your family, close friends, and colleagues. Rest in perfect peace our radio legend,” said MoFaya’s DJ Sbu.
According to SowetanLive, Grant Shakoane’s journey on the radio started as a translator at an advertising agency working at the SABC, before he decided to audition for a job on-air at the national broadcaster.

Grant Shakoane is affectionately known to those who borrowed him their ears as Mr. “Shebabadoo Shebaba”, he’s graced the microphone in the 80s on Metro FM, hosting the popular Soul and RnB show on Sundays. He also hosted a show on Vuma FM.
Details around his death are still unknown at this stage, but according to the publication Tim Modise took to Twitter last week to reveal Shakoane was “in a serious condition” at a Johannesburg hospital for an unknown condition.
