Veteran actress and open letter activist Vatiswa Ndara has cleared the air surrounding her exit from popular SABC2 soapie Muvhango.
Sowetan reports that Vatiswa Ndara who joined the show just over a year ago confirmed to their sister publication that even though the news has only come to light now, she parted ways with the production in April this year.
According to the paper, Vatiswa Ndara also rubbished swirling rumours that she was shown the door for allegedly being “difficult” and undermining other people’s authority.
The actress says producers called her into a meeting in March, where they informed her that they would no longer need her services. Although she finished shooting at the end of June, she said producers agreed to pay her until August, which was when her contract was set to end.
Vatiswa Ndara says there were all sorts of rumours about her doing the rounds, but made it clear that she was not bothered by this.
“If you were to speak to the producers that I worked with and ask them how I’m difficult, I don’t even think even a single person would say a thing. There are rumours that I throw tantrums and I hold up production; there’s never been one production that has ever stopped because I was throwing a tantrum,” she says as quoted by the paper.
She added that she was fed up with the accusations and had better things to focus on.
Since her letter addressed to the minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa, Vatiswa Ndara has been vocal about issues affecting the industry. She has appeared in various debate platforms that seek to unearth the issues of talent exploitation that has hit the industry by storm.
Ferguson Films claims that they attempted to negotiate with Vatiswa Ndara and her agent in good faith and within the scope of the applicable production agreement, however, the agent subsequently ‘recused’ himself from the negotiations.
