South African actress Shaleen Surtie Richards who played the role of Dorothy Daniels on 7 De Laan has passed away in a guest house in Cape Town where she was working on a television show!
According to SABC News Shaun Mynhardt from the Museum for South African Legends has confirmed that she passed away in a guest house in Cape Town where she was working on a television show.

“Heartbreaking. Shaleen Surtie Richards has passed away. Incredibly sad day in South Africa today. Thoughts and prayers with all her family and friends,” wrote Brent Lindeque.
“Oh no. What a damn gem !!! Always. Love the family and power to an amazing career and life,” said 947’s Anele Mdoda.
Shaleen Surtie-Richards was a South African actress best known for her title role in the 1988 feature film Fiela se Kind (Fiela’s Child) and as Ester (Nenna) Willemse in the M-Net soap opera Egoli: Place of Gold.
Shaleen Surtie Richards was also a judge on the reality competition television series Supersterre, from 2006-2010.

Shaleen Surtie Richards was born in Upington on 7 May 1955 and schooled both there and in Cape Town. Qualifying as a kindergarten teacher, she taught in both cities between 1974 and 1984.
Shaleen Surtie Richardstook many roles in several amateur stage productions between 1974 and 1981 and was also active in productions of the Department of Education’s Theatre-in-Education from 1982 – 1984.
Shaleen Surtie Richardsbecame a professional actress in 1984 and became very well-known through her appearances on stage, television, and in films.

Shaleen Surtie Richards’ stage work included productions by some of the country’s leading directors. She was on stage in all the main centers of the country, as well as London, and participated in both the Grahamstown and Edinburgh Festivals.
Her many TV appearances include single dramas and series, as well as a program presenter. She had recurring roles on two other South African soapies, Generations (2001-2004) and 7de Laan (2002).
She was 66-years-old when she passed on. Her cause of death is not yet known by the public.
