South African singer Thandiswa Mazwai and her family are still suffering from the loss of their mother, Belede!

“My mother died on this day in 1993. We were babies. We are still suffering the loss. Queen Belede the great,” said Thandiswa Mazwai.
When Thandiswa Mazwai’s mother died on April 21, 1993, she was still at the tender age of 16.
Last year Thandiswa Mazwai in commemorating her mother’s death said that she was never the same but she is thankful for the lessons, including the very visceral feeling that God and her ancestors are with her.

“My mother died on this day when I was 16. I was never the same but I am thankful for the lessons & the very visceral feeling that God and my ancestors are with me. I love you, mama. Belede Camagwini Mazwai (née Vabaza) one of the most revolutionary women I knew! Rebel to the core,” said Thandiswa.
The 45-year-old Thandiswa in 2016 released her album titled after her mom, Belede. The album includes songs such as Jikijela and Kulala to name a few.

She has always described her mother as one of the most revolutionary women she knew – “A rebel to the core”.
“Too much. She was super stylish and super smart! Like hella smart! You would NEVER find my mother without a book, pen, and paper! NEVER!” said Thandiswa.
