While other students across the country and the world can only wish to have a graduation ceremony, Wits University has made it their priority to give Miss SA Shudufhadzo Musida a special “virtual” graduation ceremony that left a bitter taste in many South Africans!
And Miss SA has dismissed the graduation as an interview opportunity.
“After my virtual graduation today, I had an interview opportunity with VC Prof. Zeblon Vilakazi and of course I went in my grad attire. This pandemic has led to trying times and uncertainty for everyone. To all students who had to persevere even in the least ideal times… Phambili! Congratulations to the class of 2020,” she said.

Wits University said that their Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Zeblon Vilakazi describes these graduations as a ‘moment of hope’ for humanity.
“Dreams are valid, I never thought I’d be sitting here today…to every single graduate, to every single student who feels like this is really tough, you are going to make it through, you are going to succeed, you are going to graduate,” said Miss SA, Shudufhadzo Musida (in a video posted by Wits University).

” Discrimination and social classim at it best. Time and time you have proven to be a very disciminative institution. Other students were not afford with such an opportunity. Shame on you Wits,” wrote @Sumo99784151.
“There’s a lot of students who managed to pull through difficult times & also passed. The least you could have done was just to mention their names during the online ceremony. The nerve to post one student. La re tlwaela. Well done to all graduates. Congrats Miss SA,” commented @AuntyDee_1.

” 1/2 Call it jealousy it’s fine.
Graduations are sentimental, every Wits student dreams of the day they walk down Great hall and already that dream is shattered.Dont make if worse by giving Shudu special treatment and not even attempt to mention the students names on the program.
“Students could have been requested to record 2-min videos with their grad gowns and showcased them at the virtual grad to give the students memories. If this is PR, then do it at another time. Today is grad day for all students and today all students are equal…” said @NoziMbal1.

Others said that Miss SA Shudufhadzo Musida received a proper graduation because she is famous.
“So because she’s famous she gets a proper graduation and we don’t even get our names displayed. Great job wits. #witsieforlife #WitsGrads #Wits,” said another Tweep.
Wits University said that a total of 6 712 students will graduate this July. Of these, 169 are PhD graduands whose research seeks to find the solutions to real world problems.
