“I go by the name Motebang aka DJ SASH”, born and raised in Lesotho then later moved to South Africa in 2006. “Being from the hood means growing up in an environment of have-nots and finding a way to get what I deserve,” from the man himself, DJ SASH.
“Well the name SASH [was] built up from my middle name which I really never liked.” We wonder what that name is but we will work with what we have for now.
#1 What inspired you to become a DJ?
In an interview with Mgosi, the DJ told us that he had always been that kid who will always collect old cassettes. That is where the love for deejaying came from.
#2 What kind of influence do you wish to have in the community?
Playing and also producing hip-hop music, DJ SASH would like “to be the bridge between developing and developed music industry or personnel.
“My future hopes? Well I don’t really like giving myself high hopes I’m just working hoping there will finally be the light at the end of the tunnel maybe give myself a better life,” he said.
In light of creating positive change in the community, the producer told us that it is important that he starts by creating that change for himself. In order to give back.
Additionally, “by the end of the struggle especially in this country we living in. One of my main dream is to create a fair and fruitful connections between brands and musicians amongst other things.”
#4 When did your music career begin?
“I think around 2011 and then 2012 I dropped my first project,” said DJ SASH. Considering that the DJ has been involved in a number of projects, we were interested in knowing his most popular and or played track and this is what he had to say.
“At this moment only the hottest in the City “WoW” which featured Khumo Leff x Wesside Six & MusiholiQ produced by MeggaBeatz”.
#5 Who do you look up to locally and globally?
“Locally I can’t really say there’s some hiphop Dj I really look up to because everyone is switching lanes lately but globally it has to be Dj Scream.
You see how that guy putting on kids from the hood? Yeah that’s what I wanna see myself doing,” he said.
With that said, we continued to ask the DJ who he sees himself collaborating with, and he told us that right now he would love to work with Mnqobi Yazo.
“The guy is a great story teller I think he’s the only guy who can tell my story the way it is on a song.”
