The Woman King is a historical drama that is inspired by true events that occurred in The Kingdom of Dahomey. The Kingdom of Dahomey is said to have been one of the most powerful kingdoms in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The drama stars famous actors like Viola Davis and Thuso Mbedu, John Boyega, Lashana Lynch to name a few. The film stars two actresses from South Africa, who are Thuso Mbedu and Masali Baduza.
It is also said that Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi and Sive Ngesi will also star in the movie. Yesterday the trailer of The Woman King was released, and many South Africans had a proud moment. As they saw Thuso Mbedu in the trailer alongside Viola Davis.

South Africans took to twitter to share their happiness and joy for the actress. Many South Africans said that the actress is talented and “deserves all the recognition she’s getting”.
In 2021, Thuso Mbedu starred in another historic drama called The Underground Railroad along with American actors. The actress acted in quite a few tv shows in South Africa like Is’thunzi, Saints and Sinners, Scandal and Isibaya.
The star then went to Hollywood and was the main lead in The Underground Railroad. In 2021, Thuso Mbedu won her first international award for her performance as Cora in The Underground Railroad at the inaugural Hollywood Critic’s Association awards that was held virtually.
Early this year the actress won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Performance in a Scripted Series, The Underground Railroad.
Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi said this is her acting debut as she has never set foot on a set. Zozibini said this was a new world for her and a first-time experience, Zozi says she is grateful and looking forward to it.
Another star that is affiliated with the movie is Grammy Award-winner Lebo M. it is said that the South African composer, Lebo M was working as a composer for The Woman King. Lebo M said, “To be considered for a project as special as this one is exiting in many ways and a first for me.
I haven’t worked with a black film composer, which I’m excited about, and it’s a film that’s so timely with such amazing talent, especially from SA, produced by Viola Davis is so special to me” he told TshisaLive.
