Amapiano stars, DJ Maphorisa and Lady Du have taken to social media to slam the South African Music Awards (SAMAs). Following its 28th edition on Sunday, August 28, at the Sun City Superbowl in the North West.
Lady Du accused the SAMAs of being “gate kept”. At the same time, Maphorisa impeached the awards show of “cheating the numbers”.

This comes after social media users also accused SAMA bosses of sabotaging Makhadzi whose performance of her hit track, MaGear, had been cut short.
LADY DU TAKES A JAB AT THE SAMAS
Taking to Twitter on Monday, August 29, Lady Du claimed that artists “choose” not to attend the SAMAs because the youth are “not validated” by the awards. Which is not the first time this had been mentioned, year in and out artists are complaining about the awards show.
“We changed the game!!! We broke down the doors locked by gatekeepers!!! We are way ahead of this,” wrote the Catalia hitmaker.
“I have never submitted any of my music to the SAMAs, that is why I’ve never been nominated, side note, this has nothing to do with winning or losing…
“How are you the creative director that manages the artists that were performing and won awards on the show you’re directing is my question.”

Saying: “You can’t cheat the numbers. N f*ck the SAMAs forever doesn’t even bring food on the table,” Maphorisa wrote in his first tweet.
“The SAMAs need to respect us first it was Mlindo the Vocalist now ke Young Stunna. It’s becoming personal.

SAMA 28 AWARD WINNER
Instead, this year 10 local artists had been nominated for the SAMPRA Artist of the Year Award. However, Haksul Muziq beat out the likes of Makhadzi, Emtee and A-Reece for the top honour.
This left many South African music lovers disappointed and confused that their favourite artists did not win. Considering how popular and consistent their songs are played throughout the continent. Haksul Muziq who is said to be ‘unknown’ won the award. And with what the public had to say he paid no attention to his “haters”.
Celebrating his win on Instagram, the musician wrote: “Congratulations to us Haksul Muziq and the people who voted you really showed love towards the journey, let’s forget about the haters who didn’t even vote for their beloved artists.”
