The Banyana Banyana team was in high spirits following their historic 3-2 win against Italy in their Fifa Women’s World Cup Group G encounter on Wednesday in Wellington, New Zealand, having celebs on the edge of their seats.
Italy would have advanced to round 16 if the game had ended in a draw, but Themba Kgatlana’s last-gasp goal sent Banyana through instead.
Banyana will now face the Netherlands in Sydney on Sunday after earning a spot out of their Group along with Sweden. They have played every game at this World Cup in New Zealand, therefore this will be their first game in Sydney, Australia.
The South Africans’ dressing room was a hive of song and dance as players and coaches celebrated their first-ever World Cup win, which also secured them a spot in the tournament’s round 16.
