It is currently day 469 of the national lockdown that was initially meant to last 21 days in order to prevent the rise in Covid-19 cases. The one industry that has been affected the most due to lockdown regulations is the music industry as artists rely on tours, concerts, gigs, and appearances to make a living!
Cassper Nyovest has voiced the struggles due to level 4 saying “All the money down the drain” after having to postpone his outdoor launch and R100 million partnership with Lekau Sehoana on a Drip Footwear collaboration.
With all the hardships, the one thing that has kept everybody sane is new music. Channel O and Trace have made people feel like they are at the groove with their “Lockdown House Parties”. Kabza De Small, Maphorisa, Mr. JazziQ, DBN Gogo, and Major League DJz have kept us on our feet with new Amapiano tracks and Priddy Ugly, Tshego, and Gemini Major are coming in hot to represent South African Hip Hop.
Rapper and father to adorable Afrika, Priddy Ugly posted his cover art to his new album titled “Soil” which he says is “a true look into my reflection”. The project is set to tell the story of what being African means making way for the Rap music revolution in the continent.
The first single that features Youngsta CPT, “Pen”, has a music video out which has received positive reviews for its impeccable bars. The album will be available on the 28th of July, in the meantime, he has released “Soil Diaries” on YouTube, where we meet the team responsible for his sophomore album.
“Working on this project has been nothing short of inspiring & life-changing… In the process of working on it, we dived into depths very few witness & soared into heights seldom reached. I’m grateful to my team, & every single person that left a piece of their soul on this canvas. This is the start of a revolution in RAP music on the continent & a reset in its culture. This album journals the journey of what being a young, black family man in Africa in this period encompasses. ‘SOIL’ – a true look into my reflection,” said Priddy Ugly.
