“I’ve always wanted to. I’ve done songs with people that we never released. None of them had that feeling. This song had that feeling I needed when we listened at the end,” says Olwee.
Olwee tells us that he’s always dreamt of being a part of Kwaito culture, and for him, Piano is that.
“The Yanos. Secretly I’ve always dreamt of being a part of Kwaito Culture. For me, Piano is that. I want people to open circles and carry ciders on their heads. I wanna get to festivals with convoys of Caravelles and see people dancing on top of them to my song. I want chaos!” says Olwee.
When we asked Olwee what made him decide to work with Lady Du and Josiah de Disciple, he says: “It happened organically. Josiah is family. We have been working on and off on beats for two years. Then I met Lady Du at a party. She was performing and I was obsessed only for her to come to me and call me out because we once played a gig she DJ’d after me and asked that we do a song. I was tipsy. I don’t remember. So she said let’s try again. And here we are.

“More than anything, I love their souls. Josiah is the music. Josiah is brilliant in that he loves instruments. He thinks of things you wouldn’t imagine. Even in his own music, I hear new things even if I play a song many times. He’s just that musical. Lady Du is such a baddie on lyrics. She knows how to start a song and catch you- then sustain you. And she will GIVE you a chorus. She walked in, she asked the main points that should be in the song and I told her. It was actually her who said let’s make it LGBTIQ centric. “Asishaye ingoma yabo Doll, Mzala.” I’m always skeptical because songs with messages are never nice. But when she started spitting I wanted to cry. So this combo… man! I don’t know how I’ll beat this.”

He explains that Ms Party is a DJ. Olwee is there making tv shows but that’s not important right now.

“This song is for everyone but mainly dedicated to my community. We rarely get cute anthems for us that are just fun. So here we are!” says Olwee.
Olwee says that he’s independent. “Oh yes- my master is mine. I have a distribution deal with Africori. It’s over a few years, just so you know this isn’t a once-off.”
