Introducing creative entrepreneur, Yoliswa Myaluza, owner of her own brand YMYA. Yoliswa is a 22-year-old fashion designer, or what she prefers to be called, a creative entrepreneur, and enthusiast.
The creative entrepreneur was born and raised in Johannesburg. Despite having a career as a fashion designer, she studied Fashion Media at STADIO School of Fashion, formerly known as LISOF.
In an interview, Yoliswa told Mgosi everything you should know about the creative.
Speaking to Mgosi, Yoliswa told us “Definitely in high school, that’s when I knew that fashion was a big part of my purpose”. Yoliswa mentioned that she prefers the title “creative entrepreneur rather than “designer”.
“I don’t refer to myself as a designer I prefer calling myself a creative entrepreneur, but the minute I knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion I knew I wanted to create clothes too”.
Furthermore, Yoliswa talks about how creating clothes was supposed to be something she would do at a later stage, but her plans changed and decided to achieve it sooner.
“I just never thought it would happen so soon, I always thought it would be something that would happen later on in my life.
YMYA
“YMYA is a clothing brand that thrives off minimalism and fine detailing in the most unconventional way, whilst still maintaining structure and form” she said.
“My brand caters to everyone; we don’t have any limitations. If you love looking good, YMYA is for you”.
The creative told us more about what inspired her line and where she draws it from. This is what she had to say, “I draw a lot of inspiration from Asian culture and aesthetics, specifically Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. As for the inspiration behind my most recent line, comfort was the driving factor as well as timelessness”.
“Our Vision is to have customers feel like they never want to take our clothes off, because they so befitting to who they are”.
HOPES AND DREAMS
In a world driven by fast fashion, Yoliswa’s brand does not conform to fast fashion trends, she said, “No, YMYA is not a fast fashion brand, and I do not feel the need to keep up with trends, but I definitely believe in selectively infusing them into my collections”.
Yoliswa told us, “my favorite part of being a creative entrepreneur is the release I get from it, its euphoric. Seeing my visions come to life exactly as I pictured, and most times even better gets me every time”.
Tapping into the designer’s future plans she told the publication that she sees herself collaborating with other brands, when it feels right.
Least favourite thing about being a designer: “My biggest fear was definitely having it [brand] not be received well and disappointing myself”.
