“Township Guru sheds light on all bohemian gurus who seek to make nothing into something,” said Thato.
Township Guru
In an interview with the founders of the brand, they told us the name ‘Township Guru’ is due to the fact that their inspiration derives from the true culture of what Soweto taste makers have been from ‘Kofifi’ era. To the modern era.

“It is through passion and God-given talent that drives these young men to keep on doing what they do, and we stan! With that, Mpitso hopes that he brand immortalised Soweto’s history through art for future generations to come. And from where we are standing, it looks like the plan is already in motion.
What makes the label stand out from most brands that we have seen thus far is that it does not seem like a ‘copy and paste’ brand. It is something more like a brand that has value and stands for something. Even just by the looks and feels of it, you can tell it has more to it than just the face.

Everybody has big dreams, and so do the brand-makers, especially for their brand they stated. Thato and Thabang both want to play a huge role in the society and that includes:
“To sell globally and establish a market within Soweto to help alleviate poverty and substance abuse.”
The duo added, “also grow Soweto’s culture through indigenous ways (keeping its authenticity). Hopefully an established retail market that will help with the objectives in mind. Least favourite thing about being a designer: “Competing with brands that do it for profit gain,” said the guru.
