Prince Kaybee has apologised to Msaki for failing to mention her after their work together won them an award at the third annual Dance Music Awards held on Thursday.
Prince Kaybee won the Best House Record for Fetch Your Life, featuring Msaki. But his manager failed to mention Msaki when accepting the award on Prince Kaybee’s behalf, claiming that he was scared and forgot most of the things he had planned to say when accepting the award.
But DJ Black Coffee has acknowledged all contributors for winning the coveted award for Album of The Year featuring Msaki and Samthing Soweto.
On Friday Prince Kaybee took to his social media pages to he would like to apologise on behalf of his booking manager for not mentioning Msaki.
“Hi guys I would like to apologize on behalf of my booking manager for not mentioning yesterday at the awards when collecting the award on OUR behalf, I didn’t know what she was gonna say, I posted that “WE”(Msaki and I) have won an award. We did not mean any harm,” says Prince Kaybee.
However, Msaki didn’t take the apology in a cool manner.
“It’s all good Kabelo. I don’t mind that your booking manager didn’t mention me, that’s ok. You could’ve done that in your post about the award but it didn’t seem like a priority. You suggest I locate my contribution in the “we”. Even now, you could do better. Understand,” says Msaki.
Taking this further, I have decided to give Msaki the award if she does accept it. Honestly, this is not about individuals, its a win for everyone involved. Again I apologize on behalf of my booking agent. Love and peace,” says Prince Kaybee.
“That’s sweet thanx. This is not about the award. I’m happy for you and you deserve it. Please don’t be oblivious about the industry you are part of that can easily reduce female creatives to just voices that can be made invisible when people choose. Just credit people. That’s all,” teaches Msaki.
Prince Kaybee says that he always acknowledges artists in public for their work.
Msaki says she’s is cool with the benefit of the doubt that she was not mentioned on a written post or a tag and maybe Prince Kaybee forgot or ran out of characters when he was posting.
Msaki is an artist, songwriter, composer, Indie Label owner, and SAMA23 nominee. Yes, we just acknowledged Msaki!
