It is true when they say ”death stops the music, but not the royalties”. Legendary jazz maestro, Caiphus Semenya might have noted that down when he knocked on the grave of late Hip-Hop artists, AKA.
Semenya is demanding payment for royalties of popular songs the rapper sampled for his two albums without his permission.
According to Sunday World, Semenya is allegedly demanding 50% of royalties from two ditties AKA sampled on his two blockbuster albums without obtaining a written consent from the 83-year-old musician.
Taking to Twitter to weigh in on the matter is Rashid Kayl who shared his opinion on why Caiphus Semenya has decided to sue AKA after his death.
Rashid highlighted that maybe the jazz maestro may have noticed how well the Mass Country album has been performing on the charts and saw an opportunity to capitalize on it. The seasoned rapper continued by saying that Caiphus could have spoken with AKA while he was still alive and resolved the matter instead of making the sly move he is currently making.
“After the passing of AKA, his streams and sales doubled and tripled. Ntate Caiphus Semenya saw the opportunity to cash in. He could have approached Mega when those songs were released. That’s a sneaky move from the elder.” Tweeted Rashid Kay.
Sampling forms a big part of AKA’s winning formula, the rapper has a couple of sampled songs that have gotten popularity over the years, like the Caiphus Song.
